Rubber Conveyor Belts for Chemical Plants

Chemical plants place demanding requirements on conveyor belt performance, including chemical resistance, oil resistance, and anti-static and flame-retardant properties for operation in flammable and explosive environments.

For conveying fertilizers, chemical salts, or bulk materials with acidic or alkaline properties, Chemical Resistant Conveyor Belts are recommended. Cover compounds should utilize CR (Chloroprene Rubber) or EPDM (Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer), combined with corrosion-resistant polymer carcass, to help prevent surface cracking, blistering, and corrosion-related damage to the belt reinforcement.

For conveying oily sludge, petroleum coke, or materials contaminated by organic solvents, Oil Resistant Conveyor Belts are recommended. NBR (Nitrile Butadiene Rubber) should be used as the cover compound.

In hazardous areas involving highly volatile solvents or high dust concentrations, conveyor belts must not only provide oil resistance or chemical resistance, but must also be upgraded to specialized belt structures with both flame-retardant and anti-static properties. Examples include NBR compounds with flame-retardant additives or PVC/PVG solid woven structures, which help eliminate the risks of static accumulation and friction-induced ignition during operation.
